The leadership of Australian Big Bash League franchise Sydney Thunders captain David Warner is in jeopardy after admitting driving while consuming alcohol.
According to details, former Australian opening batsman David Warner has pleaded guilty to a drink-driving charge. Warner did not need to appear in person during the hearing at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday, with his lawyer Bobby Hill telling the court that his client admits to the mid-range drink-driving charge that occurred on Easter Sunday.
According to police, after a roadside check in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on April 5, Warner was taken to Maroubra police station for further tests, where his blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.104, more than twice the legal limit.
The lawyer said that Warner had drunk three glasses of alcohol at a friend’s house and later decided to drive, which he deeply regretted. They said that Warner considers his actions wrong and irresponsible and will ask the court for leniency, but he will face the law like a common citizen.
Warner will be sentenced on August 18. After this development, his captaincy of Sydney Thunder has also become uncertain for him, while Cricket New South Wales has described the incident as worrying, saying that the organization takes a strong stance against drunk-driving.
