PESHAWAR: The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has announced an indefinite nationwide strike, under which it has been decided to close petrol pumps across the country at 12 o’clock tonight.
According to media reports, negotiations between the association and the Petroleum Minister could not be successful, after which the petrol pump owners announced the strike.
The association’s statement said that no progress could be made in the negotiations on other demands, including increase in margins and daily implementation of petroleum product prices. After the negotiations failed, the decision was taken to go on a nationwide strike.
All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has directed petrol pump owners across the country to participate fully in the strike and said that the protest will continue until the demands are approved.
The association has demanded that the government take an immediate and acceptable decision on the legitimate demands of the petrol pump owners, otherwise the strike will continue.
On the other hand, differences have also emerged among the petrol pump owners on the issue of the strike. Dealers from Sindh and Balochistan have refused to join the strike.Dealers from Sindh and Balochistan say that the government has assured to consider the demands and has asked for a week’s respite. A meeting of the executive committee of the Petroleum Dealers Association has also been called to discuss the future course of action in this situation.
