BANNU: Five militants were killed during a joint operation by local police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Bannu, officials said.

The operation was carried out late at night near Gul Bahar Chowk in the jurisdiction of Huwaid Police Station, where security personnel engaged the suspected militants in an exchange of fire.

According to District Police Officer Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Furqan Bilal, all police and CTD personnel remained unharmed during the operation.

The official said the process of identifying the deceased militants is underway, adding that their identities and further details will be released after formal verification.

Following the operation, police and CTD launched a search operation in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining security threats and ensure the area is fully secured.

Authorities said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of residents in the district.
