ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Secretariat and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsperson Secretariat have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen institutional cooperation aimed at promoting women’s rights, protecting women’s inheritance rights, enhancing women’s participation in the parliamentary process, and ensuring the effective implementation of workplace harassment laws.

The agreement focuses on fostering collaboration, coordination and information sharing on issues related to women’s rights, parliamentary engagement and the enforcement of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010.

Under the MoU, the two institutions will establish a joint framework for exchanging information, building institutional capacity, providing technical assistance and holding consultations on matters of mutual interest.

The agreement also ensures that the constitutional mandates, institutional autonomy and parliamentary privileges of both organizations will be fully respected while implementing the partnership.

As part of the collaboration, both sides will strengthen coordination with the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus to raise public awareness, safeguard women’s inheritance rights, promote meaningful participation of women in parliamentary affairs, improve enforcement of workplace harassment laws, support effective implementation of relevant legislation and enhance oversight through continuous consultation and dialogue.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, officials said the MoU reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing women’s rights, strengthening legal protections, improving governance and expanding institutional cooperation through coordinated efforts.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Acting National Assembly Secretary Saeed Ahmed and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsperson Barrister Rabab Mehdi.
