YouTube has rolled out a major update for YouTube Shorts, introducing a range of new features designed to help content creators engage audiences more effectively and expand their reach.

As part of the update, creators can now upload photo carousels containing up to 10 images within a single Shorts post.

The platform has also introduced the ability to add text overlays directly to images and include up to 15 seconds of background music, offering users greater flexibility in creating visually engaging content.

According to YouTube, the new tools are intended to enable creators to tell richer and more compelling stories within the Shorts feed.

The company said the update will be particularly beneficial for musicians, singers and other artists, providing them with an easier way to showcase their work, reach new audiences and strengthen engagement with existing fans.

For music integration, creators will be able to use tracks from YouTube’s licensed music catalog, the YouTube Audio Library, and Dream Track, where the feature is available.

The latest update brings YouTube Shorts closer to rival platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, where photo carousels and image-based posts have already become widely popular.

YouTube said the new features will also benefit creators who publish content across multiple social media platforms by giving them access to a familiar format for sharing promotional and visual content.
