SAN FRANCISCO: YouTube has introduced a series of new features for its Shorts platform, enabling users to create and share photo-based content more easily, in a move that further aligns the service with rivals such as Instagram and TikTok.

According to the information provided by the corporation, it will now be possible to post slideshows with up to 10 pictures, which will give users flexibility in creating content without having to edit videos.

Also, creators can now add text to their photos and 15 seconds of background music, which will enable them to easily make interesting short content using only the photos.

YouTube says that these changes will give users the opportunity to tell their stories through visual content, which does not require complicated video editing.

This way, YouTube is continuing to evolve the experience of its Shorts format in the direction of short-format content which is becoming increasingly popular on competing services like Instagram and TikTok.

Apart from the features related to photo content, YouTube has also rolled out some interface changes recently.

Other updates include the ability to double playback speed for Shorts, allowing users to consume content more quickly, as well as replacing the traditional “thumbs up” icon with a heart-based like button.

The platform is also phasing out the dislike button in favor of alternative feedback options such as “Not Interested” and “Don’t Recommend Channel,” aimed at refining content recommendations for users.
