The Punjab government has approved a new initiative to bring overseas Pakistani and foreign specialist doctors to 12 public sector hospitals across the province, aiming to provide advanced surgeries and specialised medical services to patients.
Under the Diaspora Doctor Locum Programme (DDLP), experienced overseas Pakistanis and international medical professionals will serve on short-term assignments and help strengthen healthcare delivery in Punjab.
The government will implement the program in 12 public sector hospitals across the province. The approval came during a meeting of the Specialized Healthcare Department, where the chief minister chaired discussions on healthcare reforms.
Each doctor will perform up to eight advanced surgical procedures during their stay. The minimum service duration will be 15 days per doctor. Under the program, overseas Pakistanis and foreign specialists with relevant qualifications may apply. The applicants must hold postgraduate degrees, have at least three years of overseas fellowship experience, and present a valid fitness certificate.
