PESHAWAR: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Peshawar has released a new fare notification for intercity as well as urban transport services amid the drastic fall in the prices of petroleum products especially diesel.

As per RTA Peshawar, the new fare structure has been issued keeping in view the drop in diesel price from Rs 379 per litre to Rs 311 per litre. The fares have been calculated on the basis of the provincial slab formula due to the fall in fuel prices.

The drivers of flying coaches, minibuses, regular buses, as well as air-conditioned buses have been asked to immediately implement the revised fare.

In accordance with the new notification, the fare for Peshawar-Charsadda journey via regular buses has been kept at Rs 95 and Rs 100 for air-conditioned buses. Likewise, the fare from Peshawar to Kohat will be charged at Rs 212 and Rs 225 per trip for regular and air-conditioned buses respectively. The new fares for Peshawar to Mingora will be Rs 561 and Rs 595 via regular buses and AC buses respectively.

For intra-city routes, fares have also been revised. The Charsadda bus stand to Bakhshi Pul route will now cost Rs 13 for standard buses and Rs 14 for AC services, while travel to Naguman has been fixed at Rs 42 and Rs 45 respectively.

Some other fares which have been raised are Rs 65 to Pabbi from Nowshera, Rs 33 to Risalpur and Rs 82 to Jahangira. It has been requested by the concerned authority that both the travellers and the transport companies strictly adhere to the new fare structure.

It is worth mentioning that the decision has been taken in order to give some relief to the people due to the decline in fuel prices.

BRT services to be suspended on Ashura in Peshawar

Meanwhile, amid extraordinary security arrangements, BRT services will be suspended on Ashura in Peshawar, while police and law enforcement agencies across the province have been placed on high alert.

Moreover, eight districts in the province have been classified as highly sensitive, while six districts have been designated as sensitive. Strict security measures have been implemented for 614 Imambargahs and 907 mourning processions scheduled during Muharram.

Under the security plan, 43,317 police personnel will be deployed across the province, supported by more than 12,000 additional security officials. Authorities said mobile phone services will remain completely suspended in highly sensitive areas, while partial service restrictions may be imposed at other sensitive locations. Due to security concerns, several commercial centres and markets within the city will also remain closed.

Meanwhile, Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will remain fully suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram as part of the security arrangements. Earlier, the federal government had declared June 25 and 26, 2026, Thursday and Friday, as public holidays on account of the 9th and 10th Muharram 1448 A.H., Ashura.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holidays have been announced in continuation of the government’s earlier circular No. 10-01/2026-Min-II dated January 19, 2026, regarding public and optional holidays for the year.

The notification stated that the Prime Minister has approved declaring both days public holidays to mark the religious observance of Muharram. The holidays will be observed by all government offices and institutions operating under both five-day and six-day working week schedules.
