Senior Journalist Najam Sethi said that the diplomatic efforts of the Pakistani leadership for peace in the Middle East have been appreciated at the global level, based on which it may deserve nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The senior journalist and analyst has said that in the context of the recent war and extraordinary situation of peace in the Middle East, Pakistan’s political leadership has played an important diplomatic role, due to which the Prime Minister and other relevant figures may deserve nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In an interview given to Indian journalist Kiran Thapar, Najam Sethi was asked whether he believed that Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Army Chief should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, along with the Qatari leadership.

In response to this question, Najam Sethi said that the recent period in the Middle East has been extraordinary in terms of both war and peace, and three important figures of Pakistan played a significant role in reaching this situation. According to him, the diplomatic efforts of the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and later the Interior Minister have been appreciated not only by Iran but also by the United States.

He said that the efforts of these leaders have been acknowledged in various international circles, due to which their services can be considered worthy of nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Najam Sethi said that in his opinion, the Pakistan-India conflict did not require such an extraordinary nomination; however, the recent progress made for peace in the Middle East is a historic opportunity. He said that this is not a matter limited to the Gulf region, Pakistan, India, or the United States, but reflects the broader agenda of global peace.

He further said that if the aim is to recognize those who have contributed to the promotion of peace at the global level, then, in this context, the nomination of the relevant Pakistani leadership for the Nobel Peace Prize should be considered.
