ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian will undertake a state visit to Pakistan on June 23, 2026, at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Foreign Office said on Monday.

According to an official statement, President Pezeshkian will lead a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior officials during his visit.

During the visit, the Iranian president will meet Pakistan’s top leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with the Chairman of the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Officials said this will be Dr. Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as President of Iran.

The two sides are expected to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation in areas including trade, energy, border security, people-to-people contacts, and regional connectivity.

The visit will also provide an opportunity to discuss ongoing diplomatic engagement following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, along with broader regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Diplomatic observers say the visit reflects the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran and their shared commitment to strengthening historic, cultural, and economic ties while promoting regional peace and stability.

The Iranian delegation is expected to return after completing a one-day official engagement in Islamabad.

Traffic Advisory Issued in Islamabad Ahead of Iranian President’s Arrival

Meanwhile, authorities have announced the temporary closure of all bus terminals at Faizabad until 9:00 pm on Tuesday due to security and traffic arrangements ahead of the expected arrival of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

According to officials, the move has been taken to arrange for the proper implementation of the security protocol as well as the movement of VIPs during his visit.

The President of Iran is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on June 23 for his one-day official visit. However, the timings of his arrival have not been shared for security reasons.

In the arrangements being made, national flags of both countries Pakistan and Iran have been hoisted on the important routes such as the Red Zone.

Besides, commuters have been advised by the authorities to keep in mind while travelling an extra time of 45 minutes to one hour while travelling because of the possible closure of some roads during the VIP movement from the Old Airport to the Red Zone.

Officials clarified that rumours circulating about a public holiday in the federal capital are false and urged citizens to rely only on verified updates.

Security agencies and law enforcement personnel remain on high alert as Islamabad prepares to host the visiting dignitary.
