Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced launching a new digital pension verification system that uses facial recognition technology, enabling pensioners to complete the process from home without visiting banks.
Taking part in National Assembly session, Aurangzeb said the innovative system would allow elderly pensioners to confirm their identity through facial recognition, eliminating the need for physical appearances.
The pensioners would now be able to carry out their verification conveniently from their residences under this initiative, he said.
While elaborating on broader budget priorities, Aurangzeb said the government has implemented a range of measures aimed at expanding the tax base. He further noted that a key objective of the administration is to leverage digitalisation and artificial intelligence to eliminate discretionary powers in governance.
The minister also informed lawmakers that salaries and pensions of government employees have been significantly increased. Providing an update on economic performance, Aurangzeb said that all major indicators have shown marked improvement over the past year, highlighting that the current account has moved into surplus territory.
He also told the National Assembly that overseas Pakistanis have remitted $4.25 billion, while freelancers from Pakistan have contributed $1.6 billion to the national economy.
