United States (US) students walked out in protest during a speech by Google CEO Sundar Pichai at Stanford University in California in support of Palestinian freedom.
According to media reports, the students expressed their concerns about the situation in Gaza and the role of big technology companies. According to eyewitnesses, as soon as Sundar Pichai began addressing the students, a group of students got up from their seats and started walking out of the hall. Some students also held Palestinian flags and protest banners, while others preferred a silent protest walkout. Slogans like “Justice for Palestine” and “Stop the War” were also heard during the walkout.
The protesters argued that global technology companies should be more transparent about their business and government partnerships in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The students demanded that universities and private institutions adopt clear and responsible policies on human rights issues.
Videos and photos of the incident quickly went viral on social media, with users calling the students’ protest an example of freedom of expression.
