ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new feature on its official website aiming to enhance digital access and streamline services for users.

According to a PTA spokesperson, the regulator has incorporated an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot facility into its website in order to assist users with their telecom inquiries and services.

“The chatbot feature is expected to allow quicker access to regulatory information and will work around-the-clock in answering user queries,” he added.

He further pointed out that the bot will be able to help users lodge complaints, register SIMs/devices and assist with any other issues related to the regulator. Additionally, it will help users find government facilities and automated systems.

The move came in the wake of PTA’s efforts towards digitalizing governance by employing technological means.

PTA issues advisory on SIMs ownership, urges users to verify registrations

Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned citizens against allowing others to use mobile SIM cards registered in their names, cautioning that such practice is a punishable offence and could expose individuals to legal risks.

In a statement issued, the PTA said any SIM registered under a person’s identity could potentially be used for unlawful activities, making the registered owner liable for investigation and legal consequences.

The authority advised citizens to verify the number of SIMs registered against their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).

Users can check this information by visiting the SIM Information System portal at cnic.sims.pk or by sending their CNIC number, without dashes, via SMS to 668.

The PTA further urged the public to immediately block any unknown or unnecessary SIMs registered in their names.

It also advised consumers to obtain new SIM cards only through authorised franchises or customer service centres.

The regulator said these measures are essential for protecting personal identity and preventing the misuse of mobile connections for illegal activities.

Citizens were encouraged to visit the PTA’s official website for further information and assistance.
