PESHAWAR (Kashifuddin Syed): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has issued a notification for new examination rules designed to assess the professional skills of the provincial bureaucracy and align administrative practices with modern standards.
According to the notification released by the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Civil Servants Departmental Examination Rules: 2026” have been implemented across the province with immediate effect.
These rules were established with the approval of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the authority granted by Section 26 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Civil Servants Act, 1973. The new rules apply to all civil officers in Grade 17 within the Provincial Management Service and the Pakistan Administrative Service.
To modernise the syllabus and subjects of the departmental examinations, a high-powered four-member committee has been formed. This committee includes the Additional Chief Secretary (General) as Chairperson, members from the Human Resource Management and Administration Department, the Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department, and an Additional Secretary from the Human Resource Management and Administration Department. The Chairperson also has the authority to include any suitable person as a co-opted member of the Committee.
These examinations will be conducted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission at least once a year. Each civil servant will be allowed three consecutive attempts to pass the examination within three years from the date of their first application. If an officer fails all three attempts, they will become permanently ineligible for future examinations.
Furthermore, if an officer is absent from the examination without permission from the competent authority, this absence will also be treated as a failure.
