Six people were killed when an Islamabad-bound motorcar plunged into a gorge in the Kohistan Lower Mata Banda area, Rescue 1122 said on Monday.

Spokesperson for Rescue 1122, Kohistan Lower, told media that the incident occurred early in the morning near Mata Banda police post. He said the car was coming from Gilgit and heading towards Islamabad, carrying six passengers.

The Rescue 1122 team reached the scene and pulled out the dead bodies from the ravine and shifted them to the Rural Health Centre, Pattan, Lower Kohistan. According to preliminary information, the deceased were identified as Suliman Khan, resident of  Muzafarabad, AJK, Muhammad Shuban, hailing from Janu, Khaniwal, Imran and Danyal.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson emphasised that three of the deceased were military personnel, while two others remained unidentified. Kohistan is one of the hardest terrains where fatal traffic accidents frequently occur, especially on the Karakoram Highway.
