HARIPUR: Two friends drowned in the Khanpur dam while trying to save their other companion, who was recovered in critical condition and was shifted to a nearby hospital, Rescue 1122, Haripur said on Monday.
According to Rescue 1122, two friends came for the picnic to Khanpur dam in Haripur and went to swim in the dam when one of their friends drowned. In an attempt to save their drowning friend, two other companions jumped into the dam, and both of them drowned due to the strong current and the depth of the dam.
The Rescue 1122 official said that a rescue operation was launched by their diving team soon after the incident, and they recovered two dead bodies and one person in critical condition.
They said the third friend was taken out of the water and moved to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Khanpur, in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Moeed-26 and Muhammad Ijaz-26, residents of Tarnool, Islamabad.

Four children died after drowning in Kotki Talab, Hangu on Sunday, while one remains in critical condition.
According to police and rescue officials, the incident occurred when five children fell into the pond. Rescue 1122 teams reached the site immediately after receiving the information and launched a search and rescue operation. All five children were pulled from the water. Four were pronounced dead at the scene.
The fifth child, who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Hangu in critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased and the injured child were later transported to DHQ Hospital Hangu for medico-legal procedures and treatment. Authorities have urged parents to keep children away from ponds, canals, and open water bodies during the hot summer season to prevent such tragedies.
