PESHAWAR ( Kashif Uddin ): Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) witnessed an extraordinary influx of patients during the four-day Eid Ul Adha holidays, providing medical treatment to more than 13,500 people through its emergency department.

According to hospital administration, nearly 5,300 patients sought medical attention for food-related illnesses, including indigestion, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal complications, largely attributed to excessive consumption of sacrificial meat and rich foods during the festive period.

The hospital also received around 900 trauma cases, including more than 300 victims of road traffic accidents.

In addition, over 250 individuals were treated for injuries related to sacrificial animals, animal attacks, knife wounds and other incidents occurring during the slaughtering process.

Hospital authorities said emergency, medical, gastroenterology, trauma, laboratory and radiology departments remained on high alert throughout the holidays to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.

A total of 540 patients were admitted to various wards during the Eid break, while laboratory staff conducted 8,689 diagnostic tests.

The hospital also performed 330 ultrasound examinations, 1,217 X-rays and 62 CT scans to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment.

Officials said special arrangements and round-the-clock staffing helped the hospital effectively manage the unusually high patient load during the Eid holidays.
