Pakistanis to receive passports at their doorstep: Officials
Earlier, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) is preparing to roll out a countrywide passport shipping service alongside an automated digital assistant to streamline the process for citizens, according to DG Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Randhawa revealed that passport seekers will shortly be able to receive their documents right at home. He noted that negotiations are currently taking place with a major logistics firm to finalise the logistics. Once the contract is finalised, the doorstep distribution setup will go live nationwide, allowing individuals who opt for the service to have their ready passports mailed directly from the federal capital for a small delivery fee.
The Director General further explained that the department intends to scale this mailing facility to include expatriates living abroad during the next stage of the rollout.
Additionally, the immigration chief announced the upcoming deployment of an interactive chatbot. This virtual tool will permit users to easily review necessary paperwork, look up application steps, and track the real-time progress of their pending passports online. The integration of this automated platform is expected to alleviate pressure on the department’s telephone helpdesk, which is concurrently undergoing a capacity expansion.
