ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NARDA) has introduced a new feature allowing citizens to take full control of access to their biometric data through the Pak ID mobile application.
Under the newly launched Block Biometric Data Access system, biometric verification using fingerprints or facial recognition will not be possible without the user’s consent.
According to a NADRA spokesperson, once the feature is activated, no institution or service provider will be able to carry out biometric authentication unless the user temporarily enables access through the mobile app.
The authority said the initiative aims to strengthen the security of sensitive biometric information and place complete control of personal data in the hands of citizens.
To activate the feature, users must log into the Pak ID mobile app and navigate to Profile Settings, where they can select the Block Biometric Data Access option.
NADRA officials noted that some mobile devices may require additional verification, including fingerprint or facial authentication, before enabling the feature.
The spokesperson added that users can temporarily disable the block whenever biometric verification is required and reactivate it immediately afterward to ensure continued protection of their biometric information.
According to NADRA, the new system is designed to give citizens greater control over their identity data while preventing unnecessary or unauthorized use of biometric information.
