BUNER: Political and social leaders of Buner, has rejected the provincial government’s decision to construct a judicial complex in the village of Elai, terming it against the public interest and a waste of valuable agrarian land.

TThe jirga has made it clear that this decision has been taken by ignoring the ground realities, which will not only affect agricultural lands but also create serious problems for the local population.

Speaking at the important meeting of the Buner Qaumi Jirga, elders said that 100 kanals of land selected for the judicial complex is located right in the middle of the village of Elai, which is extremely valuable and is being used for agricultural purposes.

This land is surrounded by a population of houses. The construction of the judicial complex here will affect the privacy of residents and will create traffic and security problems in the already densely populated area.

The jirga says that barren or uninhabited land should have been selected for large government facilities like the judicial complex, and not the lush agricultural land in the middle of the city.

The Buner National Jirga has strongly appealed to the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court to review the matter. The Jirga has demanded that this “unwise” decision of the provincial government be declared null and void. A place should be selected for the judicial complex that is within public access but does not harm valuable agricultural land or the human population.

They warned that the people of LA will not allow any construction on their ancestral and agricultural lands that will jeopardize their future. If the government does not withdraw its decision, the Buner National Jirga will be forced to launch a strong protest movement.
