The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has raised concerns that this year’s heat may surpass last year’s levels in the current month and June.
The initial wave of heat experienced in the first week of May was merely a preview, a severe heat wave is expected to hit the country in the coming days, prompting the issuance of a heat wave alert by the NDMA.
According to the NDMA, areas in upper Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan are likely to experience extreme heat during May and June. Citizens have been warned that temperatures during these months may even reach 50 degrees Celsius.
NDMA representative Zahra Hassan stated that, in addition to Central Punjab and parts of South Punjab, some regions in Balochistan and upper Sindh will also experience significantly high temperatures. The heat is anticipated to intensify, affecting temperatures in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as well.
The NDMA is not only warning about the impending heat wave but is also actively working to prepare relevant institutions to address the challenges of high temperatures.
The primary objective of issuing the heat wave alert is to enable the administration and other organizations to make necessary arrangements promptly.
