WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump described Pakistan as a “remarkable country” and praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir as outstanding personalities.
Speaking to media persons, Trump accused Iran of launching missile and drone attacks against US naval ships operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
In his view, “the first Iranian regime is gone, the second regime is about to be gone, and we are talking to the third Iranian regime.” The President made clear that Iran would never get its hands on nuclear arms and would soon sign a deal.
Before that, Trump had written on the microblogging site Truth Social that US naval ships were sailing through the Strait of Hormuz unscathed despite attacks by Iranian drones and small ships. Furthermore, the US naval ships are expected to continue blockading activities in the area and will respond with tougher measures if Iran does not comply with the deal.
Trump: Three US warships pass Strait of Hormuz despite Iranian attacks
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that three US Navy destroyers successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz despite attacks from Iranian forces, with no damage sustained to the American ships.
In a statement on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that while the Iranian attack targeted the destroyers, the missiles and drones launched were intercepted and neutralized without harming the US vessels. He added that the American forces destroyed the small attacking Iranian boats, which sank in the water.
Trump described the Iranian drone strikes as ineffective, claiming they fell into the sea “like butterflies,” and criticized Iran’s leadership, calling them “madmen” who would use nuclear weapons if given the chance. He warned that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
He also said that the US has delivered a “knockout” to Iran, and if diplomatic deals are not signed, even harsher measures could follow.
