PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is currently grappling with a critical shortage of over 15,000 personnel, a deficit that arrives at a time when an increasing threat of terrorism is already complicating the province’s security landscape.
Official police documents reveal a massive gap across various ranks, totalling 15,300 vacant positions. The breakdown of the shortage includes 130 Inspectors, 1,175 Sub-Inspectors, 2,139 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), 2,181 Head Constables, and a staggering 9,672 Constables.
The report further highlights a concerning gender imbalance within the force, noting that the representation of female officers remains exceptionally low. Currently, only one female Inspector is serving in the entire province, supported by just 7 Sub-Inspectors and 21 female ASIs. This acute manpower crisis, particularly in the lower and middle tiers of the command structure, poses a significant challenge to maintaining law and order and effectively executing counter-terrorism operations in the frontline province.
