WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump confirmed that phone negotiations with Iran are continuing, despite his earlier threats to escalate military conflict. Speaking at a press briefing, Trump emphasized that the US will not tolerate Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, and stated that Tehran needs to accept its defeat, claiming that US objectives in the conflict have nearly been achieved.
“Talks are ongoing between us and Iran, and they understand that we won’t take their pursuit of nuclear weapons lying down. Iran has already been defeated, and it’s about time they accepted it. Our missions here have almost reached full completion.”
Moreover, Trump cited several victories that the military forces of the U.S. have earned against Iran. According to him, 82% of their missile power has been eliminated by the military, and a total of 159 Iranian ships have been sunk in the war. In addition to these, he said, Iran’s currency no longer held any worth owing to the economic downturn they faced due to sanctions.
“Our missions are nearly complete,” Trump stated. “It is high time that Iran accepted their defeat.”
