ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza, stressing the importance of lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis for achieving regional stability and economic development.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sharif expressed his belief that Trump’s leadership and efforts can pave the way for a quick resolution to the conflict. “I welcome President Trump’s 20-point plan to ensure an end to the war in Gaza,” Sharif wrote. “I also believe that lasting peace between the Palestinian people and Israel will be essential for political stability and economic development in the region.” The prime minister appreciated Trump’s efforts to advance peace efforts in the region, describing the former president’s involvement as “extremely important and urgent.”

Sharif also praised the role of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and said, “I appreciate President Trump’s leadership and the important role of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in ending this prolonged war.” He stressed the need for implementing a two-state solution for lasting peace in the region. He added, “I firmly believe that implementing the two-state proposal is essential to ensuring lasting peace in the region.” It is important to mention here that the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statement comes at a time when tensions are rising in Gaza, international calls for a ceasefire are being made, and renewed efforts are being made to resolve the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The proposal has been handed over by the Doha mediation team to the Hamas leadership, which will present its point of view after a detailed review of the 20-point peace agenda.
