Leader of Business community and traders appealed locals to observe complete shutter down due to ongoing poor law and order situation in the area and demanded the government to ensure security of the public against growing incident of Target killing and lawlessness.
The step has been taken in response to the tense situation in which there is public anger over security challenges, target killings, and non-implementation of agreements reached between the government and the local jirga in the past.
Local traders and political leaders had announced that if their demands including restoration of roads and establishment of peace were not accepted by April 20, they would shut down the city, which is being implemented today. The city’s markets, commercial centers, educational institutions, and transport hubs are closed during the strike.
Meanwhile, another sad news has emerged from Bannu, according to which unknown militants have martyred two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel in Koram Garhi area of Bannu district today, who were present for shopping in a local market.
After this incident, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, which has further tense the atmosphere in the city. It should be noted that a government building was also targeted with explosives last night within the limits of the Township Police Station. Due to these incidents and the strike, normal life in Bannu city has been completely suspended.
