After a large number of students failed exams under the new education system in North Korea, the authorities have indicated strict measures. According to media reports, the system of elective subjects was introduced for the first time in senior middle schools in the 2026 academic year, but more students failed in the specialization track exams than expected.
The relevant institutions of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea have reacted strongly to this situation and warned that students who do not meet the required standards may be sent to coal mines or construction projects.
According to reports of North Korea Daily , when the results were unexpected, party officials took the matter seriously and sent inspection teams to schools across the province to conduct a detailed review of the system. This decision is being seen as an attempt to further tighten the education system and improve performance, but it can also be questioned at the global level.
