Iran has proposed allowing commercial vessels to pass freely through a designated maritime route along the Omani coastline in the Strait of Hormuz, reportedly without facing military action.

According to Reuters, Iranian sources suggested that the shipping lane could be shifted towards the Omani side of the strait to facilitate safer and smoother maritime movement. Under the proposal, vessels travelling along the designated corridor would not be targeted.

The initiative is aimed at reducing the risk of incidents during ongoing tensions and supporting diplomatic discussions in the region.

Iranian officials indicated that the measure is intended to prevent any untoward events during negotiations, while ensuring continuity of maritime traffic through one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.

Reuters further reported that more than 20,000 vessels, including oil tankers, have been affected in the aftermath of recent hostilities, leading to significant disruptions in shipping through the strait.
