PARIS: In a significant diplomatic push to stabilise the region, the French President has confirmed high-level discussions held yesterday with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump.

During these talks, the President urged an immediate resumption of the negotiations that were recently suspended in Islamabad, emphasising the importance of clearing up misunderstandings and avoiding any further escalation of conflict. He highlighted that it is essential for a ceasefire to be strictly respected by all parties and insisted that such an agreement must also include Lebanon.

A key priority established during these discussions is the unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The President stated that the waterway must be accessible without restrictions or tolls as soon as possible, asserting that once these conditions are met, negotiations should be able to resume quickly with the support of the key parties concerned. To bolster these efforts, France and the United Kingdom are set to host a conference in Paris this Friday. This meeting, conducted via videoconference, will bring together non-belligerent countries ready to contribute to a multilateral and purely defensive mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the strait when security conditions allow.
