PESHAWAR: Two workers were buried under debris after a landslide and the collapse of a protective wall during the construction of a canal embankment in the Beri Bagh area of Peshawar.

According to rescue officials, the boundary wall of the canal suddenly collapsed while the workers were on site, trapping them beneath the debris.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Rescue 1122 team quickly arrived with heavy machinery and modern equipment to initiate a search and rescue operation.

After several hours of effort, the rescue teams recovered the bodies of both workers. A disaster vehicle, three ambulances, and 36 personnel participated in the operation, which was overseen by District Emergency Officer Peshawar, Iftikhar Khan. The team skillfully and cautiously continued removing the debris throughout the operation.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi confirmed that the two workers who were missing have been identified as Shahzad and Muhammad Ali. Their bodies have been transferred to the hospital for necessary legal procedures and will be handed over to their families afterwards.

The administration has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
