ISLAMABAD: Following a rise in petroleum product prices, electricity rates in Pakistan may also see an increase. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an upward adjustment in the January monthly fuel adjustment.
NEPRA will conduct a hearing about the proposed rate increase on February 26 2026.
According to the CPPA, 914 million units of electricity were generated in February, while 876.2 million units were supplied to power distribution companies. The cost of electricity in January was PKR 12.17 per unit which exceeded the reference cost of PKR 10.39 per unit that month.
The CPPA has requested an increase of PKR 1.78 per unit for one month to account for the rise in fuel costs.
