PESHAWAR: The dengue epidemic in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is now alarming, with over 97,000 cases reported in the province during January to August 2025, official statistics of the Health Department indicate.
With 9,726 dengue cases, Nowshera is now the worst-affected area. Peshawar comes next at 9,455, Swat at 8,951, and Shangla at 7,895 infections.
With a staggering 22,863 new cases—the highest in any one month this year, August was the worst.
The recent floods and the presence of standing water, which offer favorable breeding conditions for mosquitoes, are to be blamed by health authorities for the rise in dengue infections.
To stop the disease’s spread, authorities have asked the public to take preventative measures including removal of standing water.
