TEHRAN: Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has warned that any attack on Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would be considered an act of aggression that could trigger a full-scale war.

Pezeshkian expressed his views in relation to Shapiro’s comments, the US former envoy to Israel, who suggested that even Donald Trump had entertained scenarios of assassination of Khamenei. The Iranian top leader mentioned that the Iranian public’s creative and resilient countermeasures to such measures is still the result of the persistent inhumane sanctions imposed by America and its allies.

The President declared unequivocally that the assassination of the Supreme Leader would be a direct attack on the whole Iranian people. He insisted that such measures would not be tolerated and that the consequence would be dire.

It is said that Shapiro, in a piece for an Israeli newspaper, reportedly stated that President Trump had reached the verdict that Khamenei’s removal might be justifiable within weeks. Meanwhile, this claim has not been validated or countered by the U.S. government till now.

Pezeshkian’s comments are indications of the already very strained relations between the U.S. and Iran, especially over military and diplomatic strategies in the region.

Iran to US Allies: American bases will be hit if US strikes Iran

Earlier, Iran issued a stern warning to its neighbouring countries, saying that if the United States launches an attack on Iran, American military bases in the Middle East will be targeted in retaliation.

One of the top officials of Iran said that the country had clearly communicated to the US allies in the area and had asked them to prevent the US from going through with its military action against Iran. The official particularly named Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Turkey as countries that have been dealt with regarding the possible repercussions.

This warning comes in the aftermath of the escalating fears of a US-Iran confrontation. The Iranian regime has made it known that it considers the American military presence in the area as the sole reason for any tensions and that it will retaliate if this is the case.

A report coming from the Wall Street Journal, in turn, mentioned that the Gulf nations, with Saudi Arabia at the forefront, are totally against any US military action on Iran. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman are said to have warned the US that an attack on Iran would have the dire consequences of throwing the global oil market into chaos, which eventually would come back to the US economy.

Saudi officials have been sending messages to Iran that they will stay out of any dispute with it. They have also indicated that they will not allow the US to use Saudi airspace for military operations against Iran.

With the situation getting tenser day by day, it is still very fragile and a lot of people are looking forward to a diplomatic way out so that there will not be more fighting in this already unstable region.
