SRINAGAR: In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, India and its proxy administration continue to use physical, mental, and psychological torture as a tool to sustain New Delhi’s illegal occupation and suppress Kashmiris’ UN-recognized right to self-determination.

A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture said that since January 1989, Indian forces have martyred 96,498 Kashmiris, including 7,419 in custody and in fake encounters.

More than 97,044 Kashmiris have been injured by bullets, pellets, and tear gas since 2000. The report said prominent Hurriyat leaders, including Ashraf Sehrai, Altaf Shah, Syed Ali Gilani, and Maqbool Butt, died in custody or were executed.

It added that since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, at least 29,490 Kashmiris have been detained and tortured as the BJP regime has intensified its crackdown across the occupied territory, the report concluded.
