ISLAMABAD: A recent tweet by Zalmay Khalilzad, former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, alleging that killings had taken place in the Pakistani town of Akhtarabad, Okara district has been debunked as false. The Okara District Police Officer (DPO) swiftly responded to the claim, stating that no such deaths or violent incidents had occurred in the region.
Khalilzad’s tweet, claimed that Burhan, a senior commander of the ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) group, known as Zaid, has been killed in a targeted operation in the Pataki area of Akhtarabad, Okara district, Punjab province.
However, local authorities were quick to clarify the situation, with the DPO issuing an official statement confirming that there were no reports of any such killings in Okara or Akhtarabad.
“This is a baseless allegation with no factual backing,” the DPO said. “Our forces have confirmed that no such incident has taken place.”

Experts suggest that this may be part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing Pakistan’s reputation, particularly in light of ongoing regional tensions.
