World largest fast food chain bigger than McDonald’s, which has 37,000 stores worldwide, is now ready to set foot in the United States.
The world’s largest fast food chain, which has surpassed McDonald’s, Starbucks and Subway in the number of stores, is now going to make its debut in the US.
This Asian brand is “Mixue Ice Cream & Tea”, which expanded rapidly globally after being established in China and is now preparing to open its first US branch in the Tribeca area of New York. Mixue, also known as “Honey Snow Ice City” in Chinese, is famous for its low-cost ice creams, bubble tea and fruity drinks. Most of the drinks and ice creams are priced at less than a dollar, making it a household name in Asia. In some cities, it is said that every empty shop eventually turns into a Meishu. By the end of last year, Meishu had overtaken McDonald’s and Starbucks in terms of the number of stores. It has about 37,000 stores in China alone, with thousands more branches in countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.
Meishu began in 1997, when its founder Zhang Hongzhou opened a small ice cream stall in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou. Over time, he introduced affordable ice creams, bubble tea and fruit drinks and consolidated the business model through franchising. By 2010, the brand was expanding rapidly. In 2018, Meeshu opened its first branch outside of China in Hanoi, Vietnam, and has since opened thousands of stores across Southeast Asia.
Whether Meeshu’s low-cost model will succeed in New York, known for its expensive food and drinks, all eyes are on New York to see if its affordable ice cream and tea can become as popular in the US as it is across Asia.
