ISLAMABAD: As October 27 approaches, speculation is growing over whether it will be declared a public holiday in Pakistan.

The day, observed annually as Kashmir Black Day, marks the beginning of India’s unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, a somber chapter in South Asia’s history.

While the day carries deep emotional and national importance for Pakistanis and Kashmiris worldwide, the government has not designated October 27 as an official holiday.

Nonetheless, the day remains highly symbolic for Kashmiris, representing their continued struggle for the right to self-determination.

Across Pakistan, rallies, seminars, and solidarity gatherings are held to condemn Indian atrocities and reaffirm support for the Kashmiri cause.

Though not a public holiday, October 27 stands as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan’s enduring support for their quest for freedom.
