PESHAWAR: Taking a bold stance, Wifaq-ul-Madaris has strongly opposed the armed struggle for the imposition of Shariah law, declaring that it has no connection with those shedding the blood of innocent people.

The declaration was issued after a meeting in Wifaqul Madaris’ headquarter in Multan. The declaration states that taking up arms in the name of enforcing Shariah is un-Islamic and unconstitutional. It also expressed complete disassociation from armed struggle and militant activities in the country.

The board of the religious seminary further reiterated its full support for the Lahore Declaration of 2010.

This important initiative rejects the notion that religious seminaries produce militants. Extensive coverage of this stance in the national mainstream media is indispensable, as Islamic schools remain at the forefront of efforts for peace, patriotism, and the prosperity of the country.
