ISLAMABAD: The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has arrived in Islamabad at the invitation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, where a one-on-one meeting was held between them at the Prime Minister’s House and after that, delegation-level talks began.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister Amir Muqam and Rana Sanaullah are participating from the federal government, while Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Muzammil Aslam and other senior officials are participating from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa side.
The main objective of the meeting is to end the current tension between the federation and the province and promote administrative cooperation. In this meeting, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has expressed serious concerns, especially over the situation in the Tirah Valley, the migration of people from there and the deteriorating law and order situation in the province. He has demanded from the Prime Minister that the Federation should play its full role in the fight against terrorism in the province and that the concerns of the local population regarding the operations be addressed.
In addition, financial matters are also an important part of the agenda. The Chief Minister has stressed the immediate payment of billions of rupees of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s dues to the Federation, including Net Hydel Profit (NHP) and NFC Award funds. Politically, this meeting is also important because the PTI has called for a nationwide protest on February 8. According to sources, discussions are also being held in the meeting to keep the protest peaceful and avoid a possible clash between the federal and provincial governments.
The Chief Minister has also informed the Prime Minister about his reservations regarding the health of PTI founder Imran Khan and his meeting with him.
