In a crucial match during the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the West Indies showcased their strength by defeating Zimbabwe by a massive margin of 107 runs in a one-sided contest.

The match took place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field first—a decision that turned out to be disastrous for them.

Though the West Indies started their innings slowly, the aggressive batting from Shimron Hetmyer and Romain Powell quickly dashed any hopes for Zimbabwe. The pair launched a barrage of sixes and fours, setting a challenging run-scoring pace that the incoming players continued to uphold.

For the West Indies, Shimron Hetmyer scored an impressive 85 runs, and captain Romain Powell contributed 59 runs, culminating in a combined total of 11 sixes and 11 fours. In the final overs, Sharfane Rutherford added 31 runs, Romario Shepherd contributed 21, and Jason Holder chipped in with 13 runs, leading the team to a total of 254 runs in the allotted 20 overs. This score ranks as the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history, leaving the Zimbabwean bowlers helpless.

For Zimbabwe, Muzarabani and Engarava claimed two wickets each, while Brad Evans and Cremer each took one wicket; however, they could not contain the run rate.

Chasing such a daunting target, Zimbabwe’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with players who had previously shown the ability to challenge teams like Australia and Sri Lanka returning to the pavilion one after another. The most notable resistance came from Brad Evans, who scored 43 runs while batting at number nine, but even his efforts could only lessen the margin of defeat.

The West Indies spinners delivered a devastating performance, with Gudakesh Motie taking four wickets and Akeal Hosein claiming three, effectively dismantling Zimbabwe’s batting order.

It’s worth noting that in the previous match of the same group, South Africa defeated India, making the situation on the points table even more intriguing.
