MIRPUR: The two-time world champion, West Indies has set a unique record by using the spin bowlers only to finish their innings and thus becoming the first team to do so in One-Day International (ODI) cricket.
According to details, in the second ODI of the series with Bangladesh, held at Mirpur, the West Indies made use of five spinners, who combined, bowled the entire 50 overs.
This is a first in the 54 years of the existence of ODIs that a side had used only spin bowlers to bowl all its overs. The spinners who played for the West Indies were Hosein, Chase, Pierre, Motie, and Athanaze.
Sri Lanka’s 1996 record for using the most spin in an ODI inning (44 overs against West Indies) was thus broken literally by West Indies. Sri Lanka also bowled 44 spin overs against New Zealand in 1998 and against Australia in 2004.
