WASHINGTON: The United States President Donald Trump while appreciating his government policies, said that he has stopped eight major wars in the world and especially the nuclear war between Pakistan and India.

During his State of the Union address to the US Congress Tuesday night, President Donald Trump made a new and alarming claim, calling the prevention of a nuclear war between Pakistan and India his greatest foreign policy achievement.

He revealed that in May 2025, when the two countries were engaged in fierce aerial clashes and 11 warplanes had been shot down, he intervened and averted a horrific nuclear conflict, saving the lives of about 25 million people.

While detailing his strategy, Trump said that he called the leadership of both countries directly and threatened in blunt terms that if the war did not stop immediately, the US would impose a 200 percent tariff (tax on trade) on all imports from both countries. According to President Trump, when both countries realized that their economies and money would sink, they agreed to a ceasefire within just 24 hours.

During his speech and the “Board of Peace” meeting in Washington, Trump also lavished praise on Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership. He invited Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on stage to thank him and called him a “responsible leader”, while mentioning Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, he called him a “great general” and a great human being. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif called Trump the “savior of South Asia” on the occasion, acknowledging that the timely intervention of the US President saved the region from a major disaster.

Through this speech, Trump sent a message that Pakistan is now the central pillar of his South Asia policy and that he has the ability to stop wars around the world through economic pressure. Although India has denied any third-party intervention and called it a bilateral military decision, Trump’s statement has sparked a new debate at the global level.
