The historic peace talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad and the arrival of US Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan have created a new storm in the Indian media and political circles.
Indian news channels and think tanks are currently busy conducting a post-mortem on this major diplomatic success of Pakistan. Prime time debates on major Indian news channels like Aaj Tak, Republic World and Times Now are expressing surprise and concern over how Pakistan has established itself as a “bridge” between the Middle East and the West, ending the perception of global isolation.
Indian anchors are raising the question of why Washington chose Islamabad instead of Muscat or Doha for these sensitive talks? Is the Trump administration now going to make Pakistan its strategic partner again instead of India?
A large section of the Indian media, which had been chanting about Pakistan’s “global isolation” for the past several years, has now come to a defensive position that this diplomatic success of Pakistan could prove to be a major setback for India’s regional interests.
Indian defense analysts have also commented on the “Iron Shield” security protocol implemented in Islamabad and the professionalism of the Pakistan Army, describing Islamabad as an “impregnable fortress”.
According to well-known Indian newspapers such as The Hindu and Indian Express reported that if Pakistan succeeds in brokering a permanent ceasefire between the US and Iran, it will significantly increase Pakistan’s influence in the region. Analysts say that India, which was investing in Iran through the Chabahar port, now fears that Iran’s strategic ties with Islamabad will strengthen further after Pakistan’s mediation.
Overall, the Indian media is currently in a “defensive position” and is viewing Pakistan’s diplomatic victory as a failure of its foreign policy. There is also a lot of discussion among Indian users on social media that Pakistan has once again proven its geopolitical importance on the global stage.
