PESHAWAR (Rani Andaleeb): Class III, IV, and Sanitation employees of the University of Peshawar staged a major protest on Tuesday against the prolonged non-payment of salaries and pensions. The protesters, representing some of the university’s most vulnerable staff, gathered in large numbers to voice their frustration over a financial crisis that has left them without pay for several months.
According to the protesting employees, the suspension of payments has resulted in severe financial difficulties, making it nearly impossible to meet basic household expenses, children’s education costs, and daily needs. Protesters shouted slogans against the university administration, stating that repeated requests to resolve the issue have been met with no effective action.
Pensioners also joined the demonstration, highlighting that their only source of income after retirement has been cut off, leaving them in a state of extreme distress.
The employees have issued a formal demand for the immediate payment of all outstanding salaries and pensions to alleviate their current hardships. They warned that if these demands are not met soon, the scope of the protest will be expanded further. The protesters also made a direct appeal to the provincial government and relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the university’s financial state and find a permanent solution so that employees can carry out their responsibilities with peace of mind.
