LONDON: The United Kingdom has refused to allow the United States to use its military bases for any potential action against Iran, according to British media reports.
The report stated that UK authorities emphasized that American forces would not be permitted to operate from British bases for strikes on Iran. Officials cited that participating in an attack without a clear legal justification could constitute a violation of international law.
The development has been reported to have heightened tensions between Washington and London.
US President Donald Trump said that the use of bases at Diego Garcia and Fairford may be required to deal with a potentially unstable and dangerous Iranian government.
