MALAKAND: Two young men drowned in the Swat River at the Jala Wanan area in the Batkhela area of Malakand district on Friday.

According to initial reports provided by the Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Shafiqa Gul, the victims were identified as 17-year-old Shoaib and 16-year-old Uzair. Both were residents of the Uch area in the Lower Dir district.

Upon receiving the information, divers and medical teams from Rescue 1122 Malakand reached the site and initiated a search operation. Rescue officials stated that the teams are currently searching the river to recover the bodies of the drowned youths.

Witnesses at the scene said the teenagers were visiting the riverbank when the incident occurred. Local authorities have frequently warned the public against bathing in the Swat River due to its high flow and dangerous undercurrents, particularly during the spring and summer seasons.

The search operation was still underway until the filing of this report.
