KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested two suspected operatives of India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), during a targeted operation in Karachi.

According to NCCIA officials, the suspects were allegedly involved in espionage, gathering intelligence on sensitive installations across the city. Investigations revealed that the accused had been sharing classified photos and videos of key locations on social media in exchange for payments ranging from Rs20,000 to Rs40,000.

The arrests were made during a raid conducted on October 9 near Mochko Road. Authorities recovered mobile phones and digital evidence, including records of financial transactions linked to the suspects. Forensic analysis confirmed their communication with RAW handlers.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, and a case has been registered. Officials said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend more members of the network.

In a related case, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) handed a 114-year prison sentence to Saleem, another operative linked to RAW, in an explosives recovery case. The court also imposed a Rs150,000 fine, revoked his bail, and ordered his immediate detention.

Prosecutors said Saleem was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) from the Mauripur area of Karachi, where authorities seized hand grenades, Awan bombs, a launcher, and other illegal weapons.

During interrogation, Saleem confessed to working for RAW since 2012 and admitted to visiting India three times for espionage activities. He also disclosed that he had illegally entered Pakistan from India in 1989 and obtained Pakistani identity documents and passports through forgery. Four Pakistani passports were recovered from his possession.

Investigators further revealed that before joining RAW, Saleem had worked as a rickshaw driver in the Indian state of Gujarat.
