DI KHAN: Two police personnel were martyred and four others, including a policeman and three civilians, were injured in a suicide bombing at the Dajjal joint checkpost near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Punjab boundary on Tuesday, officials said.
According to police sources, the attacker detonated explosives at the checkpost when he was stopped and identified as suspicious while attempting to cross into Punjab from Dera Ismail Khan. The suicide bomber was identified as an Afghan national, Hayat Ullah, son of Abdul Sammi.
Officials said the blast occurred when security personnel tried to intercept him at the joint checkpost. As a result, two policemen embraced martyrdom on the spot, while four others sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, Punjab and KP police launched a joint search and clearance operation in the surrounding areas. Security officials said three suspected accomplices were killed during the ensuing action, while seven alleged facilitators were arrested.
Authorities said the operation was ongoing and further details would be shared after the completion of the clearance process.
