ISLAMABAD: A senior Pakistani official has confirmed that two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down by air defence systems today after loitering in the vicinity of Faizabad, an area adjacent to Rawalpindi.
The incident occurred at the critical confluence of Rawalpindi. According to official sources, the drones were detected hovering over the high-security zone before being successfully neutralised by the air defence units.
The presence of the unauthorised drones in the sensitive airspace sparked an immediate security response. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin and intent of the UAVs. Security across the twin cities has been further tightened following the encounter.
