WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump dismissed reports that Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dennis Keane opposes potential military action against Iran.

Trump called these reports “fake news” because he claimed they contained complete falsehoods. He made it clear that he will have the final authority to decide all matters related to Iran.

Trump preferred to achieve an agreement with Iran but he informed that all diplomatic efforts will lead to disastrous results for Iran on the actual day of failure.

The warning comes ahead of a key meeting between U.S. and Iranian delegations on Thursday concerning Iran’s nuclear program. The meeting in Geneva will include US representatives Steve Cutkovic and Jared Kushner.

Trump orders 10pc global tariff, says India took advantage of US

Earlier, following a ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States striking down presidential measures related to tariff increases, United States President Donald Trump announced the immediate imposition of a 10 per cent global tariff on all countries.

According to foreign media reports, President Trump has signed an executive order enforcing the new tariff, which will take effect immediately.

The president said that while previous trade agreements would remain in place, the mechanism for their implementation would be revised.

Criticising the court’s decision, Trump described it as shameful and alleged that certain judges were acting under political influence, claiming the court had come under the sway of foreign interests.

He added that his administration would take all necessary steps to safeguard American interests.

US Vice President JD Vance also reacted strongly to the ruling, terming it lawless and saying the decision amounted to a clear violation of legal principles.

Reiterating his stance on India, President Trump said New Delhi had previously benefited from trade arrangements with the United States, but asserted that the situation had now changed.

We are not paying tariffs to India; India is paying tariffs to us, he said, describing the arrangement as fair and distinct from the previous system.

President Trump also described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a respected leader, while maintaining that earlier negotiations had favoured India. He added that a new agreement, which he said was in America’s interest, had been finalised.

The move, announced in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, is being viewed as a significant shift in US trade policy.

The imposition of a 10pc global tariff is expected to affect international markets, imports and exports, and could prompt responses from trading partners.

While the US administration maintains that the measures are aimed at protecting domestic industry, employment and economic interests, critics warn they could heighten global trade tensions.
